Venus of the Fruitful Earth: Venus in Taurus Talisman Collection
For those of you who have been following along and participating in this ongoing talismanic journey, you know we’ve been courting stellar spirits through space, through time, and through the mythic for quite a while now. We’ve been traversing ancient lands, deep space, and the depths of the imaginal. And now, with Venus in Taurus, we return to the body.
I would say the Venus in Taurus talisman might be my most practical to date. Sometimes, when you wander the imaginal, you lose touch with your body, but your body never loses touch with you. Venus in Her most earthly expression, pulls you back into yourself and says, The mystery is right here.
Through the lens of Venus, the body is an entire ecosystem of intelligences, right down to the cellular level. When in harmony, this living community is constantly sensing, responding, and working together to maintain the patterns and relationships that allow life to flourish.
Venus in Taurus asks, What do you need to flourish and be fruitful?
Now, traditionally Jupiter is associated with fruit, Venus with flowers. But Taurus governs fruit, and therefore Venus, in Her earthy home, is guardian of the fruitful (Picatrix). This isn’t “fruitful” in the capitalist sense of productivity creation. It’s not create to produce–hustle–produce.
I’m suggesting our natural state is creation. We are, right down to our trillions of cells, engaged in an unceasing act of making. Our cells act like a community of skilled artisans, coordinating to sustain the living form, a group project that is the body’s coherence. In this light, fruitful means the most aligned, authentic expression, the one most beneficial to you. That’s the fruit I’m talking about. Not all creation is fruitful.
This understanding comes from cutting-edge developmental biology, which describes cells not as passive building blocks, but as active, intelligent agents in a “multicellular mind,” to use Dr. Michael Levin’s term. Each cell senses, processes information, and makes local decisions, communicating through bioelectrical signals to coordinate growth, repair, and regeneration. Together, they negotiate to maintain the organism’s larger pattern. As humans in a body, we are both the self and the home to this multiplicity of life. The role of the body’s overarching consciousness is guardianship. Venus in Taurus asks you to step into that guardianship with greater awareness of the great coherence project that is the body’s aliveness.
And She asks you: What do you need to bear fruit?
And this means, What do you need to be flourishing?
Flourishing
In positive psychology, flourishing is when people experience positive emotions, positive psychological functioning, and positive social functioning most of the time, living within an optimal range of human functioning. It serves as both a descriptor and a measure of positive mental health and overall life well-being, and it includes components such as cultivating strengths, subjective well-being, goodness, generativity, growth, and resilience. (Source: Wikipedia, “Flourishing”)
The term is also rooted in the ancient philosophical and theological concept of eudaimonia, a concept difficult to fully capture in translation, but often described as “being in good spirit.” In Greek, eudaimon translates literally to “good” (eu) “spirit” (daimōn). To have eudaimonia is to have your inner spirit (daimōn) in a good and flourishing state, aligned with its highest nature. In the classical understanding, this is only possible if your life is guided by aretē, a cultivated state of character developed through deliberate practice, right action, and the ongoing work of living in harmony with reason and the good.
The Picatrix names Venusian flourishing in practical terms by instructing the petitioning of Venus:
-
"to liven up one’s existence with games, pleasures, and love affairs."
-
"for the union of desires, the power of causing joy and friendship, driving out idleness and grief, for invigorating the appetite, augmenting procreation, and multiplying."
-
"when you wish to seek love and friendship; then your request will be fulfilled and flourish more easily."
-
"if your request concerns people having fun together, decorators, painters, decorations, pantomimes, and those who work on embroideries of silk cloth, gold, or similar things, look to Venus.”
Read plainly, the Picatrix gives a working language for flourishing: joy, union, friendship, relief from grief, appetite for life, generativity, sociability, and the arts. This is the bridge I’m making. Venus in Taurus brings it into the body, and positive psychology names the same state as flourishing, living in your optimal range.
THE VENUS IN TAURUS TALISMANS
Venus in Taurus astrological election
The election was in the hour of Venus on the night (Venus’ sect) of June 26, 2025 at 2:38 am in Olympia, Washington. Venus is in Her earthy home of Taurus rising on the ascendant, with the waxing Moon in her domicile of Cancer closely forming a harmonious sextile aspect with the star of Aphrodite. There is additional reception between the Moon and Venus due to Venus being in the exaltation of the Moon. The Moon is moving fast while also becoming visible with the first waxing light of her cycle in the third place of the Goddess, also known as the joy of the Moon. The Moon and Venus are both free from any difficult aspects with Saturn and Mars.
Standard ritual protocols were observed. Offerings included fresh fruits, honey, cakes, wine, and water. A blended suffumigation of Venusian herbs was made. Venusian spirits were invoked through invocation, and private protocols (developed over the past five years of stellar spirit work) were followed.
The Venus Bird-Woman Talisman
“Under the influence of Venus you make the image of a woman whose body is human, with the head of a bird and feet of an eagle, in her right hand an apple…” This is drawn from the Picatrix’s description of a Venus talisman. I hand-sculpted this image in jeweller’s wax, cast in sterling silver, and inspirited under a blue flame during the elected time of 2:38 am, June 26, 2025 (see below for election details). In her hands, I set a natural emerald (a gemstone attributed to Venus) to represent the apple. On the reverse, encapsulated beneath a marquise-cut quartz crystal, I have placed a dried rose petal (a flower attributed to Venus) harvested from a rose garden in “The City of Roses.” Each talisman is strung on an Italian-made sterling silver chain.
The Verdant-life Venus Malachite Ring Talisman
The Venus Malachite Rings feature a 16 x 10 mm malachite cabochon, engraved on the underside with an image for Venus described in the Picatrix which is a woman standing on her feet, holding an apple in her right hand. The engraving was completed during the elected time of 2:38 am, June 26, 2025. The malachite is set into a ring hand-carved in jeweller’s wax to represent verdant life, then cast in solid sterling silver and finished with a patina. Silver vines encase the stone, both symbolizing growth and shielding the naturally fragile malachite. With a Mohs hardness of 3.5 to 4, malachite is a relatively soft gemstone, and the encasement is designed to protect it from scratches and fractures.
Venus Flow Rings
The Venus Flow Rings are my non-traditional addition to this collection. Each gemstone was selected for a colour or gemstone traditionally attributed to Venus. The stones were sufumigated during the elected time of 2:38 am, June 26, 2025 and the rings were created during the remainder of Venus’ transit through Taurus. I call them the Venus Flow Rings because they were co-created with Venusian spirits in a joyful state of flow, intended to assist the wearer in entering such states. Each ring is uniquely hand-crafted in wax, cast in solid sterling silver, and finished either with a bright polish or with a patina.
TALISMAN REFLECTIONS
Personal practical notes from working with the talisman:
Part of my experience of this working has been about coming into deeper relationship with my own rhythms, and learning to adjust the expectations I place on myself to make more room for rest, renewal, and simple joys. Being gentle with myself and pacing myself feels deeply aligned with the larger Venus in Taurus theme: a movement toward harmony. Aphrodite, after all, is the goddess who brings harmony.
I love how Thomas Taylor phrases it in his translation of the Orphic Hymn:
’Tis thine the world with harmony to join,
For all things spring from thee, O pow’r divine.
Aphrodite’s dominion is the Natural Law of Harmony. She harmonizes the soul and, in Her union with Ares, gives birth to Harmonia. Slowing down creates space to care for my body and wellbeing, and opens the door to more joy outside my studio practice.
The Venus in Taurus talisman feels like a balm to my own Venus in a martial residence, forever gazing (via opposition in the natal chart) across the pond at Her fruitful garden of Taurus, where She can simply be. This talisman, for me, is a taste of that.
Since working with my own talisman(s), I’ve been making changes both small and significant, in how I tend my body, how I nourish my body, and how I understand my role as a guardian. In Venus’s Taurus garden, the body is a living ecology to be cared for. When I anthropomorphise cellular intelligences, my trillions of cells become a community of friends working tirelessly to keeping me/us alive; and from that understanding comes a deeper feeling of love, patience, and gratitude towards myself. The cumulation of all these shifts has brought me into greater coherence and wellbeing in body and subsequently mind.
In an almost literal expression of Taurus’s rulership over the neck and throat, I discovered through my first visit to a chiropractor that I have a long-standing neck misalignment. It has likely been the hidden cause of head pain for most of my life. Addressing it feels like clearing a deep blockage in the part of the body Venus in Taurus governs. Restoring ease and alignment means I can experience more harmony in my journey towards flourishing.
